Alphabet Craft: D is for Dump Truck

We've played outside a lot this long weekend, so we changed it up tonight and got crafty. My daughter spotted the sand when we went through the craft supplies. So of course what better craft to do then D is for Dump Truck. 

We did this craft last year at our momstown Tales for Tots and it was a hit. You can use sand, coffee grinds, loose tea, soil, oatmeal, or pretty much anything that can look like dirt. 

What you need:

• Sand, coffee grinds, or loose tea
• Pencil or marker (to draw out the shapes for the dump truck)
• Construction paper 
• Glue

Instructions:

Draw and cut out 2 rectangles (one larger then the other), 2 wheels, and some thin pieces of rectangles for the window and bumper. Draw and cut out the letter 'D'. Glue together the pieces like the picture below.

Let your kid go crazy with the 'dirt'. It's a great sensory craft that all kids will love.

Then end result!

Be sure to have some Huggies wipes on hand to clean up the mess!

Alphabet Play at Indigo - Letter M

Yesterday we had our Alphabet Play at Indigo. We meet up here every second Wednesday and learn all about a letter. Indigo has been wonderful at providing us with a story and lending us the space. We have circle time and do a craft based on that letter of the week. We started at A and are making our way to Z.

Yesterday we were on the letter M. M is for Monkey, so we read 5 Little Monkey's Play Hide and Seek by Eileen Christelow.

We borrowed some adorable stuffed monkey's from Indigo and used them as props while we sang 5 Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed. They kids had a riot as the monkey's disappeared!

For our craft we made Macaroni Monsters! Anything involving using lots of glue and goggly eyes is a winner with kids of all ages.

The kids decided to do some shopping while they were at Indigo!

Alphabet Playgroup

This month we started a new playgroup for our toddlers to help them learn the alphabet. We have partnered up with Indigo, and once a week we will be meeting and learning one letter. We started last week with 'A' and read Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch.

And what's a playdate without circle time and crafts. We sang the alphabet and did a fun craft. Using the letter 'A' we made an alligator's head. You can find more great craft ideas around the alphabet theme on our Arts and Craft blog.
