Junior Chefs: Parfaits

This April our Junior Chefs got together to make parfaits. It is a simple and nutritious snack that all toddlers can help out with at home.

All you need is yogurt, some fruit, cereal and / or granola.

The kids picked their topping of choice and made their very own parfaits. We moms polished off the leftovers!

What is our Junior Chef Program? It is just one more program included with your momstown membership! momstown kids get busy in the kitchen creating their own mini meals! Come and learn fun new ways to create your child's favourite snacks in this hands-on program.  This event is aimed at children 18 months and up.

Register today at momstown Winnipeg to sign up for our next Junior Chefs!

Junior Chefs - Rainbow Salad

momstown is focused on MY SENSES this month, so our Junior Chefs brought in their favorite fruits and vegetables.  We were able to see, smell, touch, and taste them.  The fruits and vegetables were discussed by color starting with red then orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.  As we talked about the fruits and vegetables of a particular color, we would move those fruits/veggies to the corresponding color construction paper.  Once we made our way through the purple fruits and veggies, it was time for tasting.  Each child (with help from mom) sampled every fruit and vegetable on the table.

Braxton and Chace, two of our Junior Chefs, sampling the Rainbow Fruit Platter. Check out last months post on how to make these adorable hats!

Look at the colorful plates!

Our Junior Chefs learned the importance of eating a balanced diet full of fruits and vegetables.  They give you energy to run and play!

Thanks to Lisa for hosting another fun Junior Chefs!

How To Make Your Own Chef’s Hat

In January, momstown Winnipeg introduced the Junior Chefs program. Kids learned how to read directions, measure, mix, bake, and the fun part.... decorate! Each child got a personalized Chef’s hat to wear and take home.

Supplies (for one hat):
1 – 14L Kitchen Bag, white
1 – 3” strip of poster board
Markers / Stickers for decorating
Stapler

Steps to making your own chefs hat:
    1. Decorate poster board strip as you wish.  For our group, I put each child’s name in stickers on the hats.

    2. Measure the child’s head using the strip.  Don’t make it too snug, then the child won’t wear it.  Staple the ends.

    3. Open the kitchen bag.  Using the open end of the bag begin stapling it to the poster board strip (as shown).  Remember to staple from the inside, so the rough staple edges are pointing out, not poking the child’s head.

    4. Once stapled all around, shake the hat to get air into the bag to help it stand up straight.

    Enjoy your new Chef’s hat!
